Understanding Implicit Racial Bias and Equity
The purpose of this session will be to explore how implicit racial bias affects interactions and outcomes within school contexts. Participants will learn about what implicit racial bias is and how it can be measured. Research about Texas school diversity and equity as well as a case study in North Texas will help provide context and relevance. Ways to measure equity to help pinpoint areas for improvement will be discussed. Lastly, there will be a discussion of how participants can learn about their own implicit bias and how this awareness can help them mitigate harmful interactions based on those biases.
